Jae Kyu Lee <mailto:jklee@business.kaist.ac.kr>  is a currently the Dean of EEWS Initiative (Energy, Environment, Water, and Sustainability Initiative) and Dean of Incheon Campus Planning at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology <http://kgsm.kaist.ac.kr/> . He has been Professor of Management Information Systems and Electronic Commerce at  KAIST since 1985, and recently  served for the Dean of College of Business. During 2005-6, he was appointed as the Associate Dean of Faculty and  Research, School of Information Systems at Singapore Management University. He was the founding editor-in-chief of the journal Electronic Commerce Research and Applications (Elsevier, SSCI and SCIE Accredited), and the founding chair of the  International Conference on Electronic Commerce. Currently, he serves for the director of International Center for Electronic Commerce(ICEC), chair of CIO Forum, and the president of Web Korea Forum.

He received a B.A. in Industrial Engineering from Seoul National University(1973), a M.S. in Industrial Engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology(1975) and a Ph.D. in Operations and Information Systems from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania(1985). He was a visiting professor at City University of Hong Kong (2001), The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania (2000), University of Texas at Austin(1995), and Carnegie-Mellon University(1989).

He was founder and chair of the International Conference on Electronic Commerce (ICEC 1998, and ICEC 2000), the 3rd World Congress on Experts Systems(1996), and many other key international conferences. He was the co-chairs of Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems(2001, 2006), and track chair of ICIS 2005. He has served for the program committee of numerous international conferences in information systems and intelligent systems. He was president of academic societies such as Korea Society of Intelligent Information Systems and Korea Society of Management Information Systems.

He has authored several books on Electronic Commerce (Prentice Hall, co-authored with Efraim Turban), Artificial Intelligence in Finance and Investing (Irwin), Management Information Systems, and Intelligent Systems, and published about 60 papers (beside 90 Korean papers) in leading international journals such as Decision Support Systems, Management Science, International Journal of Electronic Commerce, Expert System with Applications, Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce, Intelligent Systems in Accounting, Finance, and Management, and many others. He presented keynote speeches at major international conferences like PACIS, PRICAI, and ICEC.

He received a number of academic awards including the best paper award in Internet and Digital Economy at HICSS-30, 1997. He received the best paper award five times from major Korean academic societies in Management Information Systems, Intelligent Systems, and Management Science. He has received the most honorable award in Korea, Maekyung Economist Prize(2004), which is given to the best researcher in Economics and Management. He received the decoration from Korea Government for his contribution to the development of IT industry.

Currently, he serves as an associate editor of leading international journals such as Decision Support Systems, International Journal of Electronic Commerce, Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce, Expert Systems with Application, Electronic Markets, Intelligent Systems in Finance Accounting and Management, and Journal of Global Information Management.

His research topics include Intelligent Models for Investment Decision, SCM with B2B eCommerce Perspectives, Semantic Web with eXtensible Rule Markup Languages, Unified Modeling with AI and Optimization, Agents in e-Commerce, Intelligent Scheduling Systems for Ship Building and Refinery. He has conducted numerous industrial projects about eCommerce Strategies for Financial Sectors, SCM and eProcurement Systems, Case Based Project Management Systems, and Intelligent Scheduling Systems for Ship Building, Electricity, and Refinery.

His research projects in Financial sector incluse the Design of Electronic Payment Solution, CRM for Banks, Design of Internet Stock Brokerage, Internet Banking Strategy, Development of Insurance Expert Systems, Intelligent Stock Portfolio Management Systems, Expert Systems for Corporate Tax Consulting. He chaired the Cyber-Payment Conferences (Hong Kong, Seoul). Recently, he delivered the key note speech on Electronic Payment and Electronic Commerce in China and Taiwan. He served the board of trust of Kukmin Bank and advisor of Woori Bank.
